Mavericks Patrick Dumont Voices Support for Luka Dončić After Trade to Lakers

Dallas Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont publicly expressed his support for superstar forward Luka Dončić following his recent trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. In an interview with Brad Townsend from The Dallas Morning News, Dumont described Dončić as an 'electrifying player' and conveyed empathy for the fans who may feel hurt by the trade, stating, 'I really sympathize with all of our fans who feel hurt. Look, as far as I'm concerned, Luka is a Mav for life and I really wish him nothing but happiness and success in his career as he continues in LA.'
Dumont also took the opportunity to address concerns surrounding the Mavericks' potential relocation to Las Vegas, firmly stating, 'The Dallas Mavericks are not moving to Las Vegas. There is no question that, that is the answer unequivocally. The Dallas Mavericks are the Dallas Mavericks and they will be in Dallas.' His comments followed the announcement of Dončić's trade on February 2, which was part of a three-team deal that included Anthony Davis moving to Dallas.
After the trade, Dončić released a heartfelt statement thanking the Mavericks organization and their fanbase, reflecting on his time with the team and his desire to win a championship for them. 'I thought I'd spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship,' Dončić shared. Notably, during the 2023-24 season, the 25-year-old forward had an exceptional performance, averaging a league-leading 33.9 points per game and contributing to the Mavericks' successful run to the NBA Finals. As discussions around league expansion continue, particularly with Las Vegas being considered as a future team location, the Mavericks' leadership has reiterated their commitment to their roots in North Texas, ensuring supporters that the team remains focused on their current goals.
