Matthew Tkachuk Named Cover Athlete for NHL 26

Matthew Tkachuk, a prominent figure for the Florida Panthers, has been announced as the cover athlete for NHL 26, the latest installment in the esteemed EA Sports video game series. Tkachuk's selection marks a significant milestone, as he is the first player from the Panthers to grace the primary cover since goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck appeared on NHL 97.
This announcement follows the Panthers’ recent triumph in defending their Stanley Cup title, a noteworthy achievement that has now been commemorated by EA Sports. During the preceding season, Tkachuk faced challenges due to a lower-body injury, which limited him to 52 games. Despite the setback, he managed to record 22 goals and 35 assists, ranking third on the team in both categories. Leading into the playoff season, there were uncertainties regarding Tkachuk's fitness, with Coach Paul Maurice acknowledging the difficulties he faced. 'Matthew's played with some injuries,' Maurice noted. 'We weren't hopeful at the start that he would survive the first round. Just didn't think he could do it. But what he does so well is he's so smart.'
Remarkably, Tkachuk participated in all 23 playoff games for Florida, even after suffering a complete tear of his adductor muscle. He delivered an impressive performance during the Stanley Cup Final against the Edmonton Oilers, contributing three goals and three assists in the final three contests. In addition to his achievements with the Panthers, Tkachuk also served as an alternate captain for the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off, where the team progressed through the round-robin but ultimately fell 3-2 in overtime to Canada. Should Tkachuk decide to undergo surgery to rectify his adductor injury, it may affect his availability for the Panthers as they commence the 2025-26 season—a sacrifice he seems willing to make in pursuit of becoming a two-time Stanley Cup champion.
