Marko Milić Departures from the Dallas Mavericks Following Luka Dončić Trade

Marko Milić is no longer a member of the Dallas Mavericks' coaching staff, as reported by NBA insider Marc Stein. Milić's departure follows the significant trade of star player Luka Dončić, with whom he shared a notable connection due to their shared Slovene heritage. Recognized as the first Slovenian player in the NBA, Milić's tenure with the Mavericks has concluded.

Before joining the Mavericks for the 2022-23 season, Milić dedicated seven years to the coaching staff of the Basketball Federation of Slovenia. His professional career, which spanned from 1994 to 2015, included stints in seven different countries, including Slovenia, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Iran, and Kuwait. Milić entered the NBA as a second-round pick in the 1997 NBA draft, playing 44 games over two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, where he averaged 2.5 points and 0.7 rebounds per game.

Milić's exit from the Mavericks follows a surprising trade that marked a pivotal moment in the franchise's history. Dončić, previously seen as the face of the franchise and a player with immense accolades—including Rookie of the Year, five First-Team All-Pro selections, a scoring title, five All-Star Game appearances, an NBA Finals appearance, and a Western Conference Finals MVP—was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In return, the Mavericks acquired 31-year-old Anthony Davis, a highly regarded player in his own right, yet the decision to move on from the 25-year-old Dončić has left many in the basketball community astonished.
