Malik Beasley Cleared from Federal Gambling Investigation, Focus Shifts to Player Integrity Concerns

Malik Beasley No Longer Under Investigation
In a significant development for the NBA community, free-agent guard Malik Beasley is no longer a part of the federal gambling probe. His attorneys, Steve Haney and Mike Schachter, confirmed to ESPN that extensive discussions with the Eastern District of New York determined that Beasley is not a target of the ongoing investigation.
“Months after this investigation commenced, Malik remains uncharged and is not the target of this investigation,” Haney noted, emphasizing the lack of an indictment or conviction. He further expressed concerns about the damaging impacts of such allegations without formal charges, stating, “An allegation with no charge, indictment or conviction should never have the catastrophic consequence this has caused Malik. This has literally been the opposite of the presumption of innocence.”
NBA's Stance on Prop Bets
The NBA has also weighed in on the issue, highlighting the concern that prop bets have become a growing source of harassment for players both online and in-person. An NBA spokesperson remarked, “NBA players compete at the highest level with the utmost integrity and are concerned that prop bets have become an increasingly alarming source of player harassment. If tighter regulations can help minimize that abuse, then we support taking a closer look at them.”
This ongoing discussion about integrity in the league and the implications of gambling will be closely monitored as the NBA continues to refine its regulations.
