Initially, the game appeared competitive, with the Raptors holding a slight 39-35 lead at the end of the first quarter, bolstered by Brandon Ingram’s 17 points. However, New York's defense turned the tide in the second quarter, stifling Toronto's offense and outscoring them 34-13. The Knicks opened the period with a remarkable 19-4 run, setting a commanding tone for the rest of the game.
New York increased its lead to 24 points early in the second half, leaving the Raptors struggling to find their rhythm. Toronto failed to reduce the gap to single digits for the remainder of the matchup. Alongside Brunson, Josh Hart proved to be a pivotal contributor, finishing with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including four three-pointers. Hart also added six rebounds, four assists, and two steals to his impressive stat line.
In the paint, Karl-Anthony Towns made his presence known, although his shooting was less efficient at 4-of-11. Towns secured 16 rebounds and tallied two blocks, along with 14 points. For the Raptors, Ingram continued to shine, ending the game with 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting. However, the rest of the Toronto squad struggled offensively, managing shooting splits of 43.3/28.9/66.7 as a team and committing 14 turnovers.
With this victory, the Knicks advance to the semifinals in Las Vegas, where they will face off against the Orlando Magic on Saturday. As they continue their pursuit of the NBA Cup, New York's performance against Toronto has certainly set a high bar.
