Ketel Marte Apologizes to Teammates After Home Burglary Incident

Ketel Marte Breaks Silence Amidst Team Frustration
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Ketel Marte has issued a public apology following reports of teammate discontent regarding his recent absences. Speaking through an interpreter, Marte expressed his feelings of frustration and personal struggle after experiencing a burglary at his home in Scottsdale during the All-Star break.
His comments come on the heels of an Aug. 14 report from Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, which indicated that some players and staff had noted Marte's habit of taking days off, stirring some unrest among the team. Concerns were particularly heightened after Marte missed the initial three games post-All-Star break, a absence some feel contributed to the team's subsequent struggles, which resulted in the front office deciding to sell at the trade deadline.
The situation dates back to the previous season when Marte reportedly upset teammates by requesting a day off in the final week of play, while the team was still in contention for a playoff spot. It was confirmed by Arizona police that Marte’s home was burglarized on July 16, with thieves making off with approximately $400,000 in personal belongings while he was participating in the All-Star Game.
Despite the challenges, the 31-year-old Marte has showcased his talents this season, boasting a batting average of .295 with 23 home runs over 93 games. Since returning to the lineup on July 21, he has played in 25 of Arizona's last 26 games, demonstrating his commitment to his teammates as he seeks to move past these recent difficulties.
