Kansas City Royals Set to Promote Top-10 MLB Prospect Jac Caglianone

Kansas City Royals are reportedly preparing to call up top-10 MLB prospect Jac Caglianone from Triple-A Omaha, as indicated by ESPN's Jeff Passan on Sunday. Caglianone, selected as the No. 6 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, is currently ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline.
The 22-year-old outfielder earned his promotion to Triple-A on May 19 after showcasing an impressive .322 batting average, .394 on-base percentage, and .553 slugging percentage in 38 games with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. Since moving up to Omaha, Caglianone has maintained a .319 average and demonstrated significant power at the plate, hitting six home runs in just eight games.
Caglianone has expressed gratitude for the support he has sensed from fans in Kansas City, noting in a recent interview with The Athletic's Mitch Sherman that the anticipation regarding his potential call-up to the majors is a positive feeling for him. Having begun his professional career as a dual-position player—spending time as both a pitcher and first baseman at Florida—Caglianone recently made his first start in the outfield during a Double-A game in April. Transitioning to this position under the guidance of former Royals outfield coach Rusty Kuntz may have accelerated his timeline for an MLB debut. With the Royals' outfield struggling and slashing .230/.293/.316 through 59 games, alongside recent roster changes including the release of veteran outfielder Hunter Renfroe, the timing appears right. General manager J.J. Picollo has emphasized the importance of Caglianone’s development and has plans to ensure a supportive transition into the major leagues.
Should Caglianone make his debut, the Royals and their supporters will hope that his offensive capabilities can significantly contribute to the team as they work to improve their standings in the American League Central.
