Josh Allens MVP Campaign Amidst Injuries
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been making a strong case for the MVP award in the 2024 NFL season, despite facing significant challenges due to an injury. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Allen suffered a fractured hand during the Bills' 34-28 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. Remarkably, Allen has continued to perform at an MVP-caliber level even with this injury, demonstrating his resilience and skill on the field.
Throughout the season, Allen has delivered impressive statistics despite his condition. He has accumulated 3,395 passing yards, accompanied by 25 touchdowns and just five interceptions. On the ground, he has rushed for 484 yards and scored 11 touchdowns, solidifying his reputation as one of the most effective dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. Notably, Allen made history during a Week 13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers, becoming the first quarterback in NFL history to achieve a passing, rushing, and receiving touchdown in the same game.
The Bills achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first team to clinch their division on December 1. They further showcased their offensive prowess on December 15, tying an NFL record by scoring at least 30 points in eight consecutive games during a Week 15 victory against the Detroit Lions. Should Allen need to miss any future games, the Bills may increase carries for running backs James Cook and Dalton Kincaid, emphasizing a run-heavy approach to compensate for the potential absence of Allen's passing. In that scenario, veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, who has appeared in relief this season, could be called upon to start for the first time since his signing with the Bills. Trubisky last held a starting position in Week 14 of the 2023 season while with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The franchise's aspirations of capturing its first Super Bowl title may hinge on Allen's availability as the season progresses.
