Jerry Jones Expresses Confidence in Brian Schottenheimers Appointment as Cowboys Head Coach

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has expressed considerable confidence in his decision to hire Brian Schottenheimer as the team's new head coach. In an interview with Dianna Russini of The Athletic at the NFL Honors, Jones cited Schottenheimer's extensive experience in the league and his familial lineage as significant factors influencing his choice. 'I looked at 25 years of being on many staffs in the NFL,' Jones remarked. 'I looked at sitting around that dinner table with his daddy, Marty Schottenheimer, and I know what osmosis does. It doesn't fall far from the tree.'
Jones further elaborated on his assessment of Schottenheimer's potential to lead the Cowboys, noting the enthusiasm he anticipates the new coach will bring to the role. 'What an opportunity to get a man, a coach, that's coming out of the shoot for the first time and the ball of fire that comes with that, and yet at the same time has his experience,' Jones explained. He emphasized that Schottenheimer's rapport with the players, including quarterback Dak Prescott, contributed to making the decision an easy one. 'When you add all of that up, this was risky because it's a first-time head coach, but we got here by taking risks.'
Brian Schottenheimer's coaching career spans numerous roles since he began in 1997, including stints as an offensive coordinator for teams like the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and most recently, the Cowboys. Having been with the Cowboys since 2022, he is now poised to take on his first head coaching role. Schottenheimer inherits a Cowboys team that experienced a challenging 2024 season, finishing with a 7-10 record, largely due to injuries, yet they have positive momentum from having achieved three consecutive 12-win seasons prior.
