Jalen Green Reflects on Houston Rockets Departure in Farewell Letter

In a recently published farewell letter in The Players' Tribune, Jalen Green expressed his gratitude towards the Houston Rockets, the franchise where he began his professional basketball career. Though acknowledging the fond memories he created with the team, Green made it clear that he will not hold back when facing the Rockets in the upcoming season with his new squad, the Phoenix Suns.
Green, who was selected by the Rockets with the second overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, had a promising start to his tenure in Houston. However, the team made a significant move by trading Green, along with Dillon Brooks and several draft picks, to the Suns in exchange for superstar Kevin Durant. While the decision to leave Houston was bittersweet for Green, he articulated an understanding of the business side of the NBA, stating, 'This is a business, and if I was up there in the executive chair, I probably would’ve made the deal, too.'
In his letter, Green reflected on his time with the Rockets and noted his excitement for the future with the Suns, particularly the opportunity to collaborate with Devin Booker. He highlighted the winning culture he helped to cultivate in Houston and expressed his eagerness to bring that mindset to Phoenix. As the Suns gear up for their matchup against the Rockets next season, it appears that Green will be prepared to showcase his abilities, stating, 'And if I bust y’all ass for 30 next season, just remember the good times!'
