Jac Caglianone Set for Major League Debut with Kansas City Royals

Top-10 MLB prospect Jac Caglianone is poised to make his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals. According to a report by ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Royals are set to call up Caglianone from Triple-A Omaha, marking a significant milestone in the young player's career.
The excitement surrounding Caglianone's promotion is palpable, with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressing his enthusiasm for the move. Caglianone, selected as the No. 6 pick in the 2024 draft, is currently ranked as the No. 10 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. After showing impressive performance at Double-A Northwest Arkansas, where he recorded a .322/.394/.553 batting line over 38 games, Caglianone was elevated to Triple-A on May 19. Since his promotion, he has maintained a batting average of .319, highlighted by a remarkable stretch in which he hit six home runs in just eight games.
In a recent interview with The Athletic's Mitch Sherman, Caglianone acknowledged the increasing attention surrounding his upcoming call-up. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the Kansas City fan base, stating, 'It makes me feel pretty good. I haven’t even been there yet, and I can already feel the love from the people of Kansas City. So I’m super thankful for it. Hopefully it stays that way.' Having spent his college career as a pitcher and first baseman at Florida, Caglianone made his professional debut in the outfield during an April game at Double-A. With guidance from former Royals outfield coach Rusty Kuntz, who previously aided in Alex Gordon's transition to the outfield in 2010, Caglianone's progress may have accelerated his timeline for a call-up. As the Royals' outfielders currently display a combined batting line of .230/.293/.316 over 59 games, Caglianone's arrival may provide a much-needed boost. Nonetheless, general manager J.J. Picollo has emphasized the importance of Caglianone's development, indicating that the organization is cautious about initiating his MLB career by placing immediate expectations on him to revitalize a faltering offense. Should Caglianone make his major league debut, the Royals will be keen to see if his power-hitting capabilities can translate to the majors, as the team seeks to make progress in the AL Central.
