Jac Caglianone Poised for Major League Debut with the Kansas City Royals

Top-10 MLB prospect Jac Caglianone is reportedly on the verge of making his major league debut with the Kansas City Royals. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Royals are planning to call up Caglianone from Triple-A Omaha in the near future. The excitement surrounding this anticipated move has even caught the attention of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Caglianone was selected as the No. 6 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and currently holds the rank of the No. 10 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline. His performance in the minor leagues has been commendable, leading to his promotion to Triple-A on May 19 after he recorded an impressive .322/.394/.553 batting line over 38 games with Double-A Northwest Arkansas. At the Triple-A level, Caglianone has continued to demonstrate his offensive prowess, posting a .319 batting average and displaying significant power with six home runs in just eight games.
In a recent discussion with The Athletic's Mitch Sherman, Caglianone acknowledged the growing hype surrounding his potential call-up. He expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the Kansas City community, stating that he can feel the affection even before stepping onto a major league field. Caglianone, who previously played both pitcher and first baseman during his collegiate career at the University of Florida, made his first professional start in the outfield during a Double-A game in April. He has since benefited from the guidance of former Royals outfield coach Rusty Kuntz, who played a pivotal role in the transition of Alex Gordon from third base to the outfield in 2010. This coaching may have accelerated Caglianone's timeline for his first call-up to the big leagues. The Royals' outfield has struggled, with a collective batting line of .230/.293/.316 over 59 games, and the recent release of veteran outfielder Hunter Renfroe underscores the team's need for new talent. General manager J.J. Picollo has emphasized the importance of prioritizing Caglianone's development, expressing caution about placing the burden of revitalizing a struggling offense on the young player's shoulders. Should Caglianone make his major league debut, the Royals hope his formidable power hitting will prove beneficial as the team seeks to gain traction in the competitive AL Central.
