Identifying the Go-To Scorers in the NBA for the 2024-25 Season

Analytics have become an integral component of the modern NBA, enhancing the depth of research and understanding surrounding the game. As game time wanes and shot clocks dwindle, every team requires a reliable player capable of making pivotal shots. However, pinpointing such players on each roster can be challenging, especially with numerous player transactions during the 2025 offseason. In Los Angeles, questions arise: Has Luka Dončić ascended to that crucial role for the Lakers, or does LeBron James' extensive experience still hold sway? Meanwhile, with Kyrie Irving sidelined while recovering from a torn ACL, will Anthony Davis or rookie Cooper Flagg step up to take the final shot? Furthermore, does the Washington Wizards roster contain anyone capable of delivering in clutch moments? As the season unfolds, determining who will take the decisive shot for each NBA team remains a critical discussion point.

The Atlanta Hawks have emerged as one of the most improved teams ahead of the 2025 season, bolstered by the addition of players like Kristaps Porziņģis and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Jalen Johnson's recovery from a shoulder injury and the solid performance of 2024's No. 1 overall pick, Zaccharie Risacher, also bolster optimism for the team. Yet, when the game is on the line, the final possession should still rest in the hands of Trae Young. With an impressive average of 7.1 points per game in the fourth quarter, Young ranks among the league's elite, only surpassed by a select few. His shooting percentages in high-pressure situations are not the highest, yet he remains the best option unless Johnson can further elevate his performance.

The Boston Celtics face a different landscape entering the new season following the anticipated absence of Jayson Tatum due to a torn Achilles. Recent trades involving Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porziņģis have further reduced the options available to Boston in critical moments. Nonetheless, Jaylen Brown emerges as the leading fourth-quarter scorer for the Celtics after posting 5.4 points per game last season, a slight edge over Tatum's 5.1. With the offense expected to revolve around Brown, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard also present viable options for late-game situations.
