Giants' Rookie Cam Skattebo Breaks the Mold with Unconventional Training Methods

Unorthodox Training Leads to NFL Stardom
The New York Giants have struck gold with rookie running back Cam Skattebo, whose unorthodox training techniques have played a pivotal role in securing his starting position. Skattebo's journey from childhood drills involving shoulder pads and telephone poles to the NFL spotlight has captured the attention of fans and media alike.
A Mother's Insight
Becky Skattebo, Cam's mother, shared insights into her son's unique training routine, revealing that he often donned his brother's shoulder pads and ran into telephone poles as part of his preparation. "Once he got onto the field, it was no surprise the punishment he inflicted on his own body and everybody else," she remarked during his senior season at Arizona State. This raw physicality is what ultimately earned him a spot on the Giants' draft board, being selected 105th in the 2025 draft.
Rising Star on the Field
In his debut NFL season, Skattebo's workload has exploded as he, alongside fellow rookie Jaxson Dart, have both risen to starting roles ahead of Week 4. So far, he has recorded 59 carries over the last three games, amassing 236 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. His recent performance against the Philadelphia Eagles showcased his prowess, as he notched a career-high 98 yards on 19 carries, scoring three touchdowns in the Giants’ Week 6 victory.
Facing Tough Challenges Ahead
As Skattebo prepares for Week 7, he and Dart will face a formidable challenge against the Broncos, who have limited opposing teams to just 89 rushing yards per game. The rookie will draw upon his distinct training experiences as he gears up for what could be one of the toughest matchups of his young career. The Giants are set to kick off their showdown against Denver on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET at Mile High Stadium.
