The conference final round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is now determined following a decisive Game 7 matchup between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs held on Sunday night. The Panthers, in pursuit of securing the Stanley Cup for a second consecutive year, achieved a commanding 6-1 victory over the Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena. With this win, Florida is set to face off against the Carolina Hurricanes, with a place in the Stanley Cup Final at stake.
The upcoming playoff schedule features several key matchups. In the Eastern Conference, the first game will see the Florida Panthers take on the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, May 20, at 8 p.m. ET. The subsequent games are scheduled for May 20, May 22, May 24, May 26, May 30, and finally, a potential Game 7 on June 1. In the Western Conference, the Edmonton Oilers are scheduled to face the Dallas Stars, with Game 1 also occurring on May 21 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by additional games on May 23, May 25, May 27, May 29, May 31, and a potential Game 7 on June 2.
In the Game 7 match, both teams remained scoreless at the end of the first period, although the Panthers demonstrated impressive aggression early on, registering 20 shot attempts within the first six minutes, while the Maple Leafs failed to record a shot at that time. Toronto's William Nylander had an opportunity to score, but Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky made a crucial save. The officiating became part of the narrative as referee Chris Rooney had to leave the game after an accidental high stick from a player. The scoring began in the second period when Seth Jones found the back of the net, capitalizing on a pass from Evan Rodrigues to give Florida a 1-0 lead. Shortly thereafter, a rebound off a save allowed Anton Lundell to extend the lead to 2-0. The Panthers' fourth line added another goal from Jonah Gadjovich, concluding the period with a commanding 3-0 advantage. Although Max Domi gave the Maple Leafs a glimmer of hope by scoring early in the third period, Florida quickly answered back with a goal by Eetu Luostarinen. The Panthers then sealed their victory with goals from Sam Reinhart and an empty netter by Brad Marchand, resulting in a final score of 6-1. As the Panthers prepare for their next challenge against the Hurricanes, the Maple Leafs continue to seek their first conference final appearance since 2002.
