Eugenio Suarez Returns to Seattle Mariners in Trade from Diamondbacks

In a notable move during his standout 2025 season, Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez has been traded back to the Seattle Mariners, as reported by Moneyline's Jeff Passan. This trade comes less than two years after the Diamondbacks acquired him from the Mariners, following the conclusion of the 2023 season.
The trade agreement involved the Diamondbacks receiving three top prospects from the Mariners, as indicated by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. All three prospects are ranked among the top 20 in the Mariners' farm system, according to MLB.com, with Tyler Locklear highlighted as the leading prospect at No. 9.
Suarez's performance has been impressive this season, mirroring his successful debut with the Diamondbacks in 2024, where he recorded 30 home runs and 101 RBIs. Currently, he boasts a .248 batting average, 36 home runs, and 87 RBIs. Suarez has also earned a second career All-Star selection, has been recognized as the National League Player of the Week on four occasions, and made headlines in April by becoming just the 19th player in Major League Baseball history to hit four home runs in a single game. Additionally, he surpassed the 300 home run milestone earlier this season. Although Suarez is recognized as a prolific power-hitting third baseman, his career has seen him navigate multiple teams, starting with his major league debut for the Detroit Tigers in 2014, followed by a trade to the Cincinnati Reds the next year, and then moving to the Mariners after seven seasons with the Reds. The Mariners held onto him for two years before transferring him to the Diamondbacks. The return of a dynamic power hitter like Suarez is expected to significantly enhance a Seattle team that currently holds a 57-51 record as they pursue a playoff spot, complementing the lineup alongside star catcher Cal Raleigh.
