Draymond Green Avoids Discipline After Heated Exchange with Steve Kerr

Warriors' Draymond Green's Heated Exchange with Coach Steve Kerr
In a surprising turn of events, Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green experienced a confrontation with head coach Steve Kerr during the third quarter of their recent game against the Orlando Magic. Following an apparent argument during a timeout, Green walked to the locker room, raising concerns about potential disciplinary actions.
According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, it has been reported that Green will not face any discipline for the incident. “From what I understand, he also spoke to general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. there after the game, they cleared the air, Draymond wanted to talk to the media afterwards. So I don’t expect there to be any further discipline coming in this situation,” she said on NBA Today.
The altercation occurred while Kerr was instructing the team. Green and Kerr exchanged words, prompting Green to leave the bench and not participate in the final 20 minutes of the game, which the Warriors ultimately won 120-97.
After the game, Kerr discussed the situation, stating, “He had it out a little bit... He made his decision to go back to the locker room to cool off,” and confirmed that Green would not be re-entering the game following their disagreement. He expressed the need for Green on the court, despite describing the situation as “unfortunate.”
Green addressed the incident with reporters, clarifying that their argument was strictly about basketball. He felt it was necessary to step away to avoid escalating tensions, stating, “Tempers spilled over, and I thought it was best that I get out of there. I don’t think it was a situation where it was going to get better, so it was best to remove myself.”
He also emphasized the importance of moving past the incident, acknowledging their long-standing relationship: “Sometimes, you’re with people for a long time, there’s a level of comfort, and s--t happens. We move forward.” As Green enters his 14th season, he is currently averaging 8.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. Despite the discord, the Warriors are looking to improve their performance as they sit at 15-15 in the early stages of the 2025-26 campaign.
