Draymond Green Reflects on Past Conflict with Jordan Poole
Draymond Green, star forward for the Golden State Warriors, has once again expressed remorse following a potential reference to unresolved tension with former teammate Jordan Poole. After the Washington Wizards' 122-114 loss to the Warriors on a recent Saturday night, Poole shared his thoughts in the locker room, stating, 'I love those guys over there,' before adding, 'I love most of those guys over there.' This latter remark has led some observers to interpret it as a subtle jab at Green.
Green became aware of Poole's comments after they were reported by Andscape's Marc J. Spears. The four-time NBA All-Star responded, saying, 'I really am sorry.' This sentiment harks back to an incident in October 2022, when Green infamously struck Poole during a practice, an act that reverberated throughout the Warriors' 2022-23 season. Following the incident, Poole was traded to the Wizards in July 2023, part of a deal that brought veteran guard Chris Paul to the Warriors.
In an appearance on Penny Hardaway's Two Cents Podcast, Green described the altercation with Poole as 'one of my biggest failures as a vet.' He reflected on his relationship with Poole, noting, 'It took me to go through that failure with Jordan Poole, who was someone that came in and chose his locker to be next to me because he wanted to learn from me.' Green's struggles with anger management were highlighted by his suspension from the NBA last season following a physical altercation with Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić. This suspension mandated that Green attend league-sanctioned therapy sessions. A recent profile by ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk described Green's personal growth stemming from these therapy sessions, with a longtime friend, Travis Walton, observing a more composed version of Green in recent months. 'He's more intentional,' Walton noted, emphasizing Green's newfound perspective on conflicts. Although Green cannot erase the incident with Poole from the past, his genuine contrition suggests the possibility of resolving any lingering animosity between the two players.
