Detroit Red Wings Unveil New Uniforms for Centennial Celebration
The Detroit Red Wings have officially unveiled their new uniforms for the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season, marking a significant milestone as they celebrate 100 years in the league. The new design pays homage to the team's rich history while featuring modern touches that fans are sure to appreciate.
Among the standout details of the new look are a leather-like captain's patch and jock tag, both of which add a unique flair to the traditional uniform. Additionally, the iconic Winged Wheel logo has been subtly tweaked to reflect the team's legacy, giving it a timeless yet refreshed appearance.
A special centennial logo is prominently displayed on the shoulder of the jerseys, while the term "Hockeytown" is inscribed inside the collar, reinforcing Detroit's pride in its storied hockey culture. Ryan Gustafson, the president of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, expressed the team's commitment to honoring the franchise’s legacy, stating, "Red Wings fans have long embraced the Winged Wheel, and we wanted our Centennial uniform to commemorate its legacy."
Gustafson further elaborated, "This design honors the traditions that make Red Wings hockey truly distinctive, while incorporating meaningful details to celebrate this remarkable milestone in a way that stays authentic to Detroit. It recognizes the outstanding players, the defining moments and above all, the devoted fans who have shaped us into who we are today. We believe this uniform will serve as a powerful reminder of our history, while inspiring anticipation for the memorable moments yet to come."
While the centennial jerseys will not fully replace the Red Wings' primary home look, the team plans to showcase the special uniforms more than a dozen times throughout the season. Fans can look forward to seeing these exciting new threads debut on October 9 during the home opener against the Montreal Canadiens.
