Derrick Henry Advocates for Lamar Jacksons MVP Candidacy
Derrick Henry, the running back for the Baltimore Ravens, has publicly expressed his support for teammate Lamar Jackson's candidacy for a third MVP award. His endorsement came in response to a post by former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III on X, where Griffin contended that it is incorrect to 'discredit' Jackson simply because of Henry's dominance on the field. Griffin emphasized that both players complement each other’s abilities in enhancing the team's overall performance.
In his response, Henry not only corrected Griffin's misspelling of his name but also declared his excitement for Jackson's contributions, exclaiming that they are 'screaming MV3 over this way.' This camaraderie reflects the strong team dynamic as Henry has adapted well in his first year with the Ravens, contributing to the team's remarkable 12-5 season. Having signed a two-year, $16 million contract last offseason, Henry's impact has been significant, particularly as he joined a roster that already featured Jackson, who led the Ravens in rushing.
During the 2023 season, Henry amassed impressive statistics, rushing for 1,921 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns. Interestingly, Jackson exceeded his own previous rushing totals, recording 915 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, Jackson's passing performance was exceptional, as he threw for 4,172 yards and 41 touchdowns with only four interceptions. With Jackson making a compelling case for his second consecutive MVP award, the focus now shifts for both players and the Ravens towards their impending Wild Card Round playoff matchup, as they aim for a deep postseason run.
