Deion Sanders Outlines Conditions for NFL Coaching Aspirations
In a recent appearance on Good Morning America, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders discussed the circumstances under which he would consider leaving his current role for a head coaching position in the NFL. Sanders indicated that a key factor would be the opportunity to coach both of his sons, Shedeur and Shilo. He emphasized, 'The only way I would consider is to coach my sons. Not son. Sons.' Despite his affinity for Colorado and the Buffaloes program, along with his appreciation for Boulder, his commitment to family remains a priority in his career decisions.
The likelihood of both Shedeur and Shilo being drafted by the same NFL team is considered low, which might temper expectations for fans regarding Sanders making a transition to the professional level shortly. Shedeur Sanders, during his time at Colorado, achieved notable success, emerging as one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft. He logged an impressive 4,134 passing yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in his final collegiate season, leading the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record. The scouting department at Bleacher Report ranks him as the 16th overall player and the second-best quarterback in this draft class, following Miami standout Cam Ward.
Shilo Sanders, while not having as statistically remarkable a career, still has the potential to be selected in the draft, based on his performance in his final season at Colorado wherein he recorded 45 tackles, one forced fumble, and two passes defended. As Deion Sanders enters his third season at the helm of the Buffaloes, he will continue to champion his sons' football journeys from Boulder while focusing on further developing the Colorado football program. After taking over a team that finished with a dismal 1-11 record in 2022, Sanders guided the Buffaloes to a 4-8 finish in the following year, culminating in their recent successful season with a record of 9-4. Even though the Buffaloes fell short of a spot in the College Football Playoff for 2024, the team's trajectory suggests an increasing potential to compete for championships in the near future.
