DeAaron Fox Switches Jersey Numbers Following Trade to San Antonio Spurs
De'Aaron Fox is set to transition to the San Antonio Spurs, changing his jersey number from his iconic No. 5 to No. 4. This change honors his wife, Recee', who wore No. 4 during her successful high school career as a McDonald's All-American at Johnson High School and later at Texas Tech University. Meanwhile, rookie Stephon Castle, the fourth overall pick in the previous year's draft, will retain No. 5.
Fox's initial intention was to wear No. 2 for the Spurs, which had not been held since Kawhi Leonard donned it, winning the Finals MVP in 2014. Previously, Fox had a storied journey in the NBA after being selected fifth overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. He averaged 21.5 points, 6.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game over nearly eight seasons with the Sacramento Kings. His shooting percentage stood at 47.1 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three-point range. Following trade discussions that involved Castle, the Kings ultimately secured the All-Star guard without parting ways with the rookie.
Following his trade announcement, Fox expressed profound gratitude towards the Sacramento organization, reflecting on his journey from a teenager to a young adult during his time with the Kings. He conveyed his appreciation for the city's support, stating that Sacramento would always hold a special place in his heart.
