DeAaron Fox Addresses Trade Rumors Amid Kings' Uncertain Future
Sacramento Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox recently addressed speculation surrounding a potential trade, categorically denying that he requested a move away from the team. In an interview, Fox responded with a firm 'No' when asked about his involvement in trade discussions, suggesting that if he had made such a request, it would have been widely known. He acknowledged the team's autonomy in exploring trade offers, stating, 'That's their decision to make.'
Rumors have suggested that the Kings may consider offers for Fox ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Notably, reports indicate that if Fox were to be traded, the San Antonio Spurs might be his desired destination. While Fox did not confirm this specific team, he remained open to the idea, mentioning, 'For sure, I think everybody has a preferred destination.' His comments reflect the natural inclination of players to consider their options amid rumors and speculation.
Fox's future with the Kings has been under scrutiny since he declined a lucrative three-year, $165 million contract extension over the summer. This decision opens the possibility of a more substantial financial commitment in the form of a four-year, $229 million extension or a five-year, $345 million supermax deal if he attains All-NBA status. Consequently, the potential for free agency following the 2025-26 season underscores his leverage in negotiations. Given that Fox remains under contract for at least another season, trading him could yield the Kings significant returns before they risk losing him for nothing. Although the likelihood of a trade remains uncertain, Fox indicated that anything is possible in the league, suggesting that the Kings might also pursue a method to bolster their roster around him.
