Davante Adams Eyeing a West Coast Return: Potential Destinations

New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams has reportedly expressed interest in returning to the West Coast, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Sources indicate that Adams would be receptive to the possibility of joining teams like the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers. Fowler also mentioned the San Francisco 49ers as a potential suitor, noting the importance for the Jets to address Adams' future given his substantial $38.3 million cap hit.
Adams has a contractual out that could lead to a dead cap hit of just $8.3 million in 2025, or a more favorable figure of over $2 million should he be released or traded after June 1. Remaining with the Jets on his current contract would result in the same cap hit for 2025 and 2026, making a contract restructure imperative. During the 2024 season, Adams recorded 85 receptions for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns while playing for both the Las Vegas Raiders and Jets, marking his fifth consecutive season with over 1,000 receiving yards.
If Adams were to part ways with the Jets, his addition to either Los Angeles team could significantly enhance their offensive capabilities. The Rams, who finished the 2024 season with a 10-7 record and advanced to the Divisional Round after defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round, have made the playoffs in three of the last four seasons. Adams could potentially fill the void left by Cooper Kupp, who announced plans to seek a trade. Meanwhile, the Chargers, with an 11-6 record in 2024, could also benefit from Adams' presence as they strive for further success, particularly in light of the promising performance from rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey. Lastly, the 49ers could be an attractive option, given Adams' roots in the Bay Area, although financial flexibility would be crucial for such a move.
