After being removed from his starting position as quarterback for the New York Giants, Daniel Jones has found himself adjusting to life as the fourth-string player on the depth chart. According to a report by The Athletic's Dan Duggan, during an open practice session on Thursday, Jones was observed lining up at safety as part of the scout team defense while new starting quarterback Tommy DeVito led the offensive install period.
In this newly assigned role, Jones shared the practice field with several practice squad offensive linemen, tight ends coach Tim Kelly, assistant quarterback coach Christian Jones, and offensive assistant Christian Daboll. Giants head coach Brian Daboll announced earlier in the week that Jones would be replaced by DeVito following a series of disappointing performances that contributed to the team’s overall struggles this season.
With a record of 2-8, the Giants’ offense has faced significant challenges, ranking last in the NFL with an average of just 15.6 points per game. In his tenure as starter, Jones has thrown for 2,070 yards, accumulating eight touchdowns against seven interceptions. His performance has fallen short of expectations, particularly following his sizeable four-year, $160 million contract signed less than two years ago. As DeVito prepares to take on the role of starting quarterback in an attempt to end a five-game losing streak, the Giants will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their upcoming matchup.
