Cubs Break Playoff Streak, Advance to NLDS with Victory Over Padres

Cubs End Playoff Drought with Wild Card Win
The Chicago Cubs have finally broken a three-series playoff losing streak that dates back to 2017. The Cubs clinched their spot in the National League Division Series (NLDS) after defeating the San Diego Padres 3-1 on Thursday night in Game 3 of their Wild Card Round matchup.
The victory was fueled by standout performances from Pete Crow-Armstrong, Dansby Swanson, and Michael Busch, who delivered key hits to propel the Cubs. Meanwhile, the Cubs' pitching staff put on an impressive display, collectively limiting the Padres to an abysmal 0-for-8 performance with runners in scoring position.
In a game that showcased both strong hitting and defensive prowess, Cubs fans were ecstatic as the team capitalized on early opportunities, chasing Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish from the game in the second inning. Although the Padres bullpen managed to restrict scoring, allowing only one run for the remainder of the game, the damage had already been done, leading to a tense battle of the bullpens.
Chicago starting pitcher Jameson Taillon was instrumental in the win, delivering four solid innings with just two hits allowed while striking out four. As often seen in elimination games, the bullpen took center stage as the match unfolded.
The ninth inning brought some excitement as Jackson Merrill led off with a solo home run. The drama heightened when Xander Bogaerts appeared to draw a walk on a full count but was called out on a contentious pitch. Tensions rose further when Brad Keller hit both Ryan O'Hearn and Bryce Johnson, placing the tying runs on base. However, Andrew Kittredge stepped in to successfully close out the game, sending Wrigley Field into a frenzy.
Now, the Cubs are set to face off against the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS, with the season series between the two teams finishing in a tightly contested 7-6 in favor of Chicago. This matchup promises to be an exciting clash in the postseason.
