Cristopher Sánchez Calls Out Umpire's Missed Call After Tough NLDS Loss

Umpire's Apology Highlights Missed Call in Phillies vs. Dodgers Game
In a game that was as intense as it was crucial, Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sánchez expressed his frustration following a controversial missed strike three call during the team's narrow 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the NLDS. The critical moment arose in the seventh inning while the Phillies were holding onto a slim 1-0 lead.
Sánchez revealed that home-plate umpire Mark Wegner later approached him to apologize for the call that could have changed the game's outcome. "He knows he missed it because he told me and he apologized to me," Sánchez recounted, underscoring the tension of the moment. However, he emphasized the importance of accurate officiating, especially in playoff scenarios. "A lot of pressure, important game, important situation, you can't miss those calls. I get it with the added pressure and all, but the pitch was a strike. So that's going to stick in the back of his mind, there," he added.
The pivotal missed call occurred on a 2-2 count against Dodgers outfielder Alex Call, who subsequently walked. This walk proved detrimental as it allowed the Dodgers to load the bases, leading to a game-tying run scored by Mookie Betts as a result of another walk.
As the series progresses, the Phillies will be looking to build upon their experiences from this game, hoping to capitalize on future opportunities and lessen the impact of officiating on their performance.
