Colts Owner Jim Irsay Passes Away at 65

Jim Irsay, the owner and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts, has passed away at the age of 65. The team announced his death, stating, 'We are devastated to announce our beloved Owner & CEO, Jim Irsay, passed away peacefully in his sleep this afternoon.' The announcement highlighted Irsay's dedication and passion for the Colts, as well as his generosity, commitment to the community, and profound love for his family.
Irsay, who became the sole owner of the Colts in 1997 after inheriting the team from his father, previously made history as the youngest general manager in franchise history in 1984 when the Colts made their move from Baltimore to Indianapolis. In his time as owner, the Colts experienced significant success, making the playoffs 14 times from 1999 to 2014 and winning Super Bowl XLI during the 2006 season, which remains the only Lombardi Trophy for the city of Indianapolis. Under his stewardship, legendary players like Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne became cornerstones of the franchise.
Beyond football, Irsay was known for his passion for music and philanthropy. He performed with the Jim Irsay Band and amassed a notable collection of music artifacts featuring items from iconic artists like Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. In 2020, he launched the Kicking the Stigma initiative aimed at raising awareness around mental health, providing a platform for athletes to advocate for mental health discussions and inspire others to seek help. Irsay is survived by his three daughters, ten grandchildren, and his ex-wife.
