College Baseball Season Culminates in MLB Draft Buzz

As the college baseball season approaches its conclusion, the MLB draft season is beginning to gain momentum. The actual selection event is set for mid-July, but several top prospects are poised to showcase their skills in the upcoming conference tournaments. Performing well in these tournaments could significantly enhance their positions on draft boards as scouts and analysts closely monitor the talent on display.
Recent mock drafts from various experts, including McDaniel and Mayo, highlight the anticipated draft order and player projections. McDaniel's latest mini-mock features a predominantly high school talent pool at the top, with four high school players among the first seven selections. He identifies Ethan Holliday, a third baseman from Stillwater High School in Oklahoma, as the leading prospect—son of seven-time All-Star Matt Holliday and brother to Baltimore Orioles middle infielder Jackson Holliday. However, he notes that the draft order remains fluid.
Following Holliday in the mock draft, Florida State's left-handed pitcher Jamie Arnold is projected at number two, and California high school right-hander Seth Hernandez is next. This is succeeded by a string of collegiate lefties, including Liam Doyle from Tennessee and Kade Anderson from LSU. The mock then features high school shortstops Billy Carlson from Hernandez's school and Eli Willits from Fort Cobb-Broxton High School, before collegiate position players Aiva Arquette from Oregon State and Jace LaViolette from Texas A&M are selected, leading to right-handed pitcher Kyson Witherspoon from Oklahoma. The mock concludes with JoJo Parker, a shortstop out of Purvis High School in Mississippi.
