Cleveland Browns Cut Tyler Huntley as QB Depth Chart Takes Shape

Cleveland Browns Make Bold Move in Quarterback Room
The Cleveland Browns have made headlines this offseason with significant changes in their quarterback lineup, and the latest news confirms that Tyler Huntley will no longer be a part of the roster. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns are releasing Huntley as they finalize their 53-man roster in preparation for the upcoming season.
Quarterback Battle Heating Up
With Joe Flacco set to start, the competition for the backup role intensifies among Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. Notably, Pickett is dealing with a hamstring injury, but head coach Kevin Stefanski has indicated confidence that he will be ready for the Browns' first game against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7.
Pickett, who has logged 25 starts in the past three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is the most seasoned of the backup options and is likely to secure the second spot on the depth chart. The organization is unwilling to part ways with the promising rookies Gabriel and Sanders, who were selected in the third and fifth rounds of the draft respectively, making Huntley the odd man out.
Huntley's Brief Stint and Future Prospects
Huntley was initially brought in to provide depth as the Browns navigated injuries among their quarterbacks during training camp. Despite leading a game-winning drive against the Los Angeles Rams in a recent preseason game, the Browns had always been clear about their direction in the quarterback competition.
Huntley brings valuable experience to any team in need of a quarterback, having started five games for the Miami Dolphins and appearing in 25 games overall throughout his career, which began with the Baltimore Ravens. Notably, he earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2022, albeit under circumstances that involved several player dropouts.
As the Browns finalize their roster, Huntley is left searching for a new opportunity with another team, signaling an important shift in Cleveland's quarterback strategy.
