Burglary Incident at Ty Jeromes Los Angeles Home
The Los Angeles residence of Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Ty Jerome was reportedly burglarized last week, as disclosed by TMZ Sports. The incident is said to have taken place on Friday, January 17, while the Cavaliers were engaged in a three-game road trip. During this span, the team faced the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday and continued on to Minnesota to compete against the Timberwolves on Saturday.
According to the reports, the suspects gained entry through a glass window and exited the property shortly after entering. Ty Jerome is anticipated to collaborate with local law enforcement to assess the extent of the theft and identify any items that were stolen. Currently, the police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the burglary.
This particular incident is part of a troubling trend; several athletes have encountered burglary issues in recent months. Notable figures, including Kansas City Chiefs players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, and Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Dončić, have also reported similar experiences. In December, the FBI issued a warning to professional sports leagues regarding the targeting of athletes' homes during their games or travels. The FBI highlighted concerns about organized theft groups from South America that utilize social media and publicly available information to determine when athletes are away from their residences. These groups reportedly employ technology such as Wi-Fi jammers to disable security systems and hinder internet connections. The FBI noted that such homes are often chosen for burglary due to the assumption of possessing valuable items like designer handbags, jewelry, watches, and cash. As of now, it remains uncertain whether the burglary at Jerome's home is linked to the organized groups referenced in the FBI's warning.
