Brock Bowers Sets NFL Rookie Records as Malik Nabers Establishes Franchise Milestone
Malik Nabers' tenure as the NFL record holder for receptions in a rookie season was brief. The New York Giants wide receiver concluded the season with a total of 109 catches after achieving five receptions in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Meanwhile, Brock Bowers, the tight end for the Las Vegas Raiders, reclaimed the top spot with his 110th reception during his team's match against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Bowers began the game with 108 receptions and recorded his milestone catch in the third quarter, marking a significant achievement as the most catches by any rookie in NFL history. Prior to this season, the record had been held by Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, who set the bar with 105 receptions in the previous year. Although Nabers did not retain the rookie record, he secured the franchise record for the Giants, surpassing Steve Smith's previous mark of 107 receptions established in 2009.
In addition to his remarkable reception tally, Bowers also achieved the record for the most receiving yards in a season for a rookie tight end. This surpassed the long-standing record held by Chicago Bears legend Mike Ditka, who accumulated 1,076 yards in 1961. Bowers had entered the game with an impressive 1,144 receiving yards. Drafted as the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Bowers has proven to be a game-changing tight end and a potential cornerstone for the Raiders organization, which currently occupies the last position in the AFC West with a record of 4-12.
