Brandon Montour Returns to Kraken After Mourning His Brother's Passing

Brandon Montour's Emotional Return to the Seattle Kraken
Seattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour has rejoined his team following a brief leave of absence to grieve the loss of his older brother, Cameron Noble-Montour. The 34-year-old passed away on Monday after a long battle with ALS, leaving a profound impact on his family and friends.
During a touching media availability on Saturday, Montour expressed his love and admiration for his brother, stating, "Very proud, very happy to be his brother. Somebody that I've looked up to since, obviously, Day 1. A great son, brother, best friend, father. He's got two baby girls." He shared how his brother fought valiantly through his illness until the very end, illustrating the deep bond they shared.
Reflecting on the bittersweet nature of his journey, Montour noted, "You've got to put everything into perspective, with the highs that I've had in the last couple of years with winning and hockey, and having babies and creating my own family." He further highlighted how he cherished the time spent with family during this tough week.
As Montour returns to the Kraken, he acknowledges the importance of keeping his mind focused on the game. "Being back in Seattle, and seeing my kids, and being a part of this again, keeps my mind off other things, which will be good," he explained. Despite the heartache, he aims to channel his brother's supportive spirit as he moves forward.
Kraken head coach Lane Lambert emphasized the significance of Montour's return, stating, "It was important for the team to have Montour back not only as a player but certainly as a leader." Lambert assured that the team would continue to support Montour through this challenging time.
This season marks Montour's second year with the Kraken, having signed with the team in 2024 following a Stanley Cup victory with the Florida Panthers. Prior to his leave, he had made a strong start with four assists in his first four games. Montour is expected to return to the ice alongside Ryan Lindgren as the Kraken prepare to face the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET.
