Brandon Ingram could be on the move as the Toronto Raptors are reportedly engaged in "advanced discussions" regarding a trade for the New Orleans Pelicans forward, according to NBA Insider Chris Haynes. Initial reports by Jake Fischer indicated that the Pelicans are gaining traction with potential deal structures involving Ingram, with the Raptors and Atlanta Hawks both showing interest.
Sam Amick of The Athletic later confirmed that the Raptors and Hawks are in close pursuit of Ingram, making the race for his services increasingly competitive. This situation is particularly noteworthy as it is not the first time Ingram has been linked with the Hawks; ESPN's Brian Windhorst highlighted the Hawks' potential interest following the loss of star wing Jalen Johnson for the season due to a shoulder injury. Ingram could serve as a critical asset for Atlanta, helping to fill the void left by Johnson.
Currently positioned ninth in the Eastern Conference, Atlanta trails the Detroit Pistons by two games for the sixth seed. Securing a top-six position would allow them to avoid participation in the play-in tournament, yet they are in need of additional scoring alongside Trae Young. Ingram, who is averaging 22.2 points per game while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from three-point range this season, could provide the necessary offensive boost. Nevertheless, durability has been a concern; Ingram has played in only 18 games this season and last took the court on December 7 due to an ankle injury. Given the Pelicans' dismal 12-38 start to the season and the fact that it is Ingram's final year under contract, trading him could be a prudent decision for New Orleans as they look to recoup value before he potentially departs. Similarly, the Raptors, at 16-34, might find value in acquiring Ingram, whose expiring contract would not impede a long-term rebuilding effort.
