Boston Red Sox City Connect Uniforms to Undergo Redesign in 2025
The Boston Red Sox are set to introduce a revamped version of their City Connect uniforms for the 2025 season. According to reports from Rob Bradford of WEEI, the new jerseys will feature a striking green color scheme, replacing the alternate blue that has been in use since 2023.
Since their inception in 2021, when MLB and Nike launched the City Connect program, the Red Sox were among the first teams to participate. Their original design, characterized by a combination of yellow and blue, was a significant departure from traditional uniforms and aimed to celebrate elements of Boston's culture, particularly the Boston Marathon and Boylston Street. For the upcoming Patriots' Day weekend, the team will continue to wear the current designs, although the blue alternate jerseys will be phased out.
Adam Grossman, the chief marketing officer for the Red Sox, addressed the reasons behind this change in an interview with Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. He noted that MLB's policy permits clubs to redesign their City Connect jerseys after a few seasons. Citing the enthusiastic reception towards the yellow uniforms from both players and fans, Grossman confirmed that the team will retain this design as a core uniform for the foreseeable future while introducing the new green variation in 2025. Furthermore, the yellow and blue jerseys will join the Red Sox's traditional rotation of uniforms, supplementing the home white, alternate home red, and road gray options.
