Blake Snell Reflects on Tough Loss: 'Pretty Unlucky' Against Blue Jays

Blake Snell's Struggles in Game 5 of the World Series
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Blake Snell faced a challenging outing during Game 5 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays, yielding five runs in a 6-1 defeat on Wednesday night. Despite the result, Snell maintained that his performance was not as poor as the stats might indicate.
"They didn't really get to me," Snell told reporters post-game. The pitcher referenced the first pitch of the game, where he delivered a fastball clocked at 97 mph, which was hit out of the park by Davis Schneider. He described this moment as unfortunate, stating, "Pretty unlucky." Snell acknowledged that he made a mistake with a pitch to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., which contributed to the scoreboard, but felt that after those initial plays, he managed the lineup effectively.
Snell noted, "After that, yeah, pretty smooth sailing. Figured out their lineup, what they like to do." However, the pitcher did point to a triple hit by Daulton Varsho, which, according to Snell, was also a case of bad luck, citing its low exit velocity of 78 mph. As the game progressed into the seventh inning, he admitted he should have performed better when dealing with Addison Barger, who put the ball in play, along with a walk to the nine-hole batter, Andrés Giménez, whom Snell had previously struck out twice.
Reflecting on the game, Snell concluded, "Just gotta be better there." The Dodgers will need their star pitcher to improve as the World Series continues, maintaining hopes of turning the series around.
