Atlanta Hawks Considering Trade Options for Zaccharie Risacher, But Not for Anthony Davis

Hawks Open to Trading Risacher, But Not for Davis
The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly open to trading their 2024 No. 1 overall pick, Zaccharie Risacher, if the right deal presents itself. However, a potential trade involving Dallas Mavericks' star Anthony Davis may not align with the team's current strategy.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Hawks do not see an in-season acquisition of Davis as a favorable option for Risacher. The Mavericks are willing to part ways with Davis, but this does not ensure that a trade will happen before the Feb. 5 deadline. Any deal would likely require Davis' approval, and there are indications that the Mavericks might hold off until the offseason, closer to the NBA draft.
Stein noted, "It all suggests that Davis wouldn't simply be dispatched somewhere without a level of collaboration with his camp… with more than one whisper relayed to us in recent days to suggest that (Rich) Paul would be high on Atlanta as a potential destination for his client if trade talks got serious." While the Hawks might not be keen on including Risacher in a Davis deal, this does not mean they are completely dismissing the idea of trading for him.
Last week, fellow NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that the Hawks remain “very intrigued” by Davis. Meanwhile, the Mavericks seem more focused on acquiring expiring contracts, young players, and draft picks over landing a star like Trae Young in any trade scenario.
Risacher's performance has not met expectations so far; after averaging 12.6 points per game as a rookie, he is currently averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game in the 2025-26 season. Despite this, the 20-year-old Risacher still has plenty of room for growth in his career.
With the Hawks sitting at 17-20 this season and struggling to find their footing as contenders, the addition of a player like Davis could bolster their roster. However, questions remain about whether such a trade would significantly elevate their chances of competing for a championship, especially given Davis' history of injuries.
