The Atlanta Hawks have traded veteran guard Bogdan Bogdanović along with three second-round picks to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for guards Terrence Mann and Bones Hyland. According to sources, the three second-round picks moving from Atlanta to Los Angeles include the 2025 pick from Minnesota, the 2027 Clippers’ own pick, and the 2026 Memphis pick, which is protected between the 43rd and 60th overall selections.
This trade comes as the Hawks reassess their priorities following a decline in on-court performance since their run to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. After finishing last season with a record of 36-46, Atlanta traded Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans. Currently positioned at 23-28 and ninth in the Eastern Conference, the Hawks are not pursuing a full rebuild but are taking a strategic step back in hopes of future growth.
Bogdanović’s long-term future in Atlanta had been under scrutiny throughout the past year, especially with the impending 2024 trade deadline approaching. Reports indicated that the Hawks were open to trading several long-term contracts, with only Trae Young and Jalen Johnson categorized as 'untouchable' players. NBA analysts highlighted that Bogdanović was likely to attract significant interest from other teams. Despite not being traded last season, his performance in 79 games, during which he averaged 16.9 points on 37.4 percent shooting from three-point range, emphasized his potential as a valuable asset. The Hawks' management, having witnessed the limitations of retaining players under long contracts, now seeks to reshape the roster to secure necessary reinforcements. The Clippers, for their part, will be optimistic that Bogdanović’s struggles with shooting this season are merely a temporary setback as they strive to maintain their position among the top teams in the Western Conference.
