Aaron Boone Responds to Fan Interference Incident During World Series Game 4

In a recent statement, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone addressed the controversial incident involving two fans who interfered with Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts during Game 4 of the World Series. The event unfolded when Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres hit a fly ball toward the right field line, where Betts attempted to make the catch. As he reached up for the ball, the fans engaged in inappropriate behavior, grabbing Betts in an attempt to pry the ball from his glove. This led to a call for fan interference, resulting in Torres being declared out.
Boone criticized the actions of the fans, stating, "Not good. There's no place for that. Come here, cheer, root for your team, whatever. Should never have your hands on anyone. Not okay." Following the incident, the two fans were ejected from the game and subsequently banned from attending Game 5. The incident highlighted the importance of maintaining respect for players, and the Yankees organization later announced that the tickets used by the ejected fans would be redistributed to a pediatric cancer patient and their family.
The Yankees also expressed their commitment to the safety and security of players, fans, and stadium staff, emphasizing that the passion of their supporters should never lead to behavior that could jeopardize the well-being of individuals during games. MLB Players Association executive director Tony Clark noted that the union was in contact with league security officials to monitor the situation. Dodgers shortstop Tommy Edman commented on the incident, deeming it unacceptable. Meanwhile, Betts reflected on the game, indicating his focus remained on the team’s performance rather than the fan interference. As the series progresses, the Dodgers are in a position to secure their eighth World Series title.
