2024 Silver Slugger Award Finalists Announced

Major League Baseball has revealed the finalists for the 2024 Silver Slugger Awards, featuring notable players such as Shohei Ohtani from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Aaron Judge and Juan Soto from the New York Yankees, and Bobby Witt Jr. from the Kansas City Royals. The winners of the awards will be announced on November 12.
Ohtani and Judge are effectively considered frontrunners for the National League and American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, respectively, making them strong candidates for the Silver Slugger honors as well. Ohtani, at 30 years old, has had a historic season, becoming the first player in MLB history to achieve a 50-50 season. His statistics include a .310 batting average, 54 home runs, 130 runs batted in (RBI), 134 runs scored, 59 stolen bases, and an impressive on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 1.036. Should he return to pitching next season, it may alter his approach on the bases, presenting a unique campaign for 2024.
Judge, 32, has maintained his status as one of the league's top power hitters, concluding the 2024 season with a .322 batting average while leading the league in home runs with 58, RBIs with 144, and achieving an OPS of 1.159. With the competition in the shortstop category, Witt is also heavily favored for the Silver Slugger despite facing stiff competition from Gunnar Henderson, who recorded a .281 batting average with 37 home runs and 92 RBIs. Witt, who posted a .332 batting average with 32 home runs, 109 RBIs, 211 hits, 125 runs, 31 stolen bases, and a .977 OPS, led the Royals to their first postseason appearance since 2015. Although Witt could have been a strong contender for the AL MVP, Judge's remarkable performance may overshadow him. Soto, at 26 years old, has had an impressive season hitting .288 with 41 home runs, 109 RBIs, 128 runs, and an OPS of .989, positioning him well for a Silver Slugger alongside Judge just as he approaches free agency.
