Stephen Curry Shines in Historic Performance, Warriors Edge Spurs for NBA Cup Victory

Warriors Edge Spurs in Thrilling NBA Cup Showdown
In a nail-biting encounter on Friday night, Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a remarkable 109–108 victory over the San Antonio Spurs, showcasing a stunning performance with 49 points. This win not only secured a vital NBA Cup Group Play triumph for the Warriors but also marked Curry's 44th game scoring 40 or more points since turning 30, tying him with basketball legend Michael Jordan for the most such games in NBA history.
Curry demonstrated his all-around skills with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals, shooting an impressive 16-of-26 from the field. His efficiency and scoring prowess set the tone for the game, which was closely contested from start to finish. Teammate Jimmy Butler III contributed significantly, adding 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, and pulling down eight rebounds.
On the other side of the court, the Spurs were led by rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama, who put together a strong performance of his own with 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. However, despite Wembanyama's effort and the Spurs' steady play, they fell to 1-1 in Group Play, while the Warriors improved to 8-6 on the season and 1-1 in NBA Cup West Group C.
The game was tight throughout, with the Warriors holding a slim two-point lead at halftime, thanks to Curry's 18 points and Butler's 10. The Spurs’ Wembanyama entered the break with 10 points, and his teammate Fox added 14. Both teams exchanged leads in the second half, but it was Curry's clutch free throws that sealed the game for Golden State.
The Warriors will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to host the Portland Trail Blazers on November 21 for their next NBA Cup matchup. Before that, they will hit the road to face the New Orleans Pelicans this Sunday.
