Packers' Rome Doubs Scores First Touchdown of the Season
Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur expressed his excitement as wide receiver Romeo Doubs scored his first touchdown of the season during Thursday's Week 2 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Doubs opened the scoring for the Packers, catching a five-yard pass from quarterback Jordan Love in the first quarter.
Following their impressive season-opening victory against the Detroit Lions, the Packers aimed to improve to 2-0. Doubs, a fourth-round draft pick from 2022, had a notable performance last season with 46 catches for 61 receiving yards and four touchdowns over 13 games. LaFleur praised Doubs' development during the offseason, particularly highlighting his patience as a route runner. "I think patience as a route runner, he's doing a great job," LaFleur noted in August. "He's always been able to get off the line, but just in terms of the patience of a route runner."
In the season opener against the Lions, Doubs joined teammates Jaylen Reed and Tucker Kraft as one of three players to receive at least four targets from Love, successfully catching two passes and contributing 68 receiving yards to the Packers' 27-13 victory.
This season marks the final year of Doubs' rookie contract, which includes a base salary of $3.4 million in 2025. As he approaches unrestricted free agency next spring, the 25-year-old aims to solidify his position as a key target for Love and display his capabilities throughout the season, starting with the upcoming matches in Green Bay.
