Kyler Murray Out for Season; Cardinals Turn to Jacoby Brissett Amid Injury Struggles

Kyler Murray's Season Cut Short by Injury
The Arizona Cardinals' head coach Jonathan Gannon confirmed on Friday that quarterback Kyler Murray will not return to the field this season due to a foot injury. This news marks a disappointing turn for Murray, who has faced significant injury challenges throughout his NFL career.
Murray, the former No. 1 overall pick, had a rocky seventh season, starting the year by participating in the first five games. However, his season took a hit when he sustained a foot injury during the Cardinals' Week 5 loss to the Tennessee Titans, leading him to miss the subsequent three games. Following his placement on the injured reserve on November 5, there were concerns that he could be sidelined for the remainder of the year.
“He is getting better,” Gannon stated on November 1. “He’s had some more work this last week, but like I said, he’s just not ready to go yet.” Gannon noted that while there’s a plan in place for the quarterback position, it’s a day-by-day evaluation, emphasizing Murray's determination to return. He mentioned Jacoby Brissett as the starting quarterback during Murray's absence, illustrating the team's evolving strategy.
Murray's injury history is concerning, as he missed nine games in the 2023 season while recuperating from a torn ACL, with only three out of his seven seasons featuring him healthy for the entirety of the games. While the Cardinals continue to deal with this setback, Brissett is expected to lead the team as they aim to break a four-game losing streak when they face off against the Los Angeles Rams this Sunday.
